Trinity Walk shopping centre teamed-up with Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice to attempt to smash the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as a princess on Sunday August 6.

A whopping 433 were counted in the official attempt area, beating the current record of 419.

Princess Jasmine from Theatre Royal Wakefield was joined by princesses of all kinds, shapes and sizes along with volunteers from Forget Me Not and Dance Xplosion to entertain the crowds.

Lucy Grice, Trinity Walk’s marketing manager, said: “It was so much fun – exhausting, but brilliant. We can’t thank people enough who came out, dressed up and got involved. The aim was to raise awareness for Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice and I think together we all achieved that. There were princesses of all types and ages, from toddlers to some six foot plus chaps! It was amazing, surreal and huge fun.”

Ryan Grint, Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice Community Fundraiser, said: “It was just absolutely amazing – I’m still speechless now and just can’t get the words out for how I feel. It was great for raising awareness for the charity, for the profile of Wakefield and showed we can all come together and do something special. We must thank Trinity Walk and every single person who got involved because it was a real team effort. It was without doubt one of my favourite, proudest days in my job.”

The information, video, pictures and count sheets will now be submitted to Guinness World Records for official consideration during the next 12 weeks.

Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice supports local children with life shortening conditions and their families in West Yorkshire and must raise £3.8 million each year to continue running their service.
