Christmas Light Switch-on

November 1st, 2012

Trinity Walk will kick-start the Christmas celebrations with a grand lights ‘switch-on’ on Thursday 22 November.

The fun and excitement starts at 3pm, with a range of festive music and street theatre including a pocket panto, carol singing, a brass band and, of course, a visit from Father Christmas.

The light-switch ceremony itself will start at 6pm when Trinity Walk’s fabulous decorations will be lit up, along with those in the rest of Wakefield city centre.

Trinity Walk’s decorations really are something special. Once again there will be two giant reindeers – standing at 7.5 metres high lit 5,000 bright-white LED bulbs – one on the balcony looking out across the main car park, and one on the main mall in front of Debenhams, Costa and New Look. In Grammar Square there will be on a 5 metre tall contemporary Christmas tree stunningly decorated with bright-white LEDs inside traditional Christmas baubles.

And new this year (2012), there will also be a magical giant snow globe experience. This enchanting spectacle, which will be open to the public from Friday 23 November, will take pride of place in Grammar Square, where shoppers have the chance to create their own unique festive scene inside the globe – throwing snow balls at friends and family or simply posing for a fabulous photo amongst the snow.

As a festive treat for the whole of Wakefield, both Trinity Walk and The Ridings Shopping Centre will be offering free parking after 3pm every Thursday from the 22nd November until the 20th December.

PLUS, the shops will be open until 8pm every Thursday for festive, late night shopping from Thursday 22 November at Trinity Walk and from Thursday 29 November at The Ridings.   From Monday 10 December, Trinity Walk shops will be open even later – till 9pm every weeknight.

Throughout the festive period, Father Christmas will be taking a break from his busy toy-making schedule to meet and greet Wakefield shoppers. He will be visiting Trinity Walk every Thursday and The Ridings every Saturday in the lead up to Christmas.

There will be something for everyone to enjoy this season, so step into Christmas at Trinity Walk.
